Palmiste Palms in Botanical Gardens Trapunto Art Glass

Palmiste Palms in Botanical Gardens Trapunto Art Glass

Size: 35 cm x 27 cm

Materials: High Quality Trapunto Glass, Silk Fibres, Natural Hessian, Framed

I wanted to produce a Trapunto Art Glass that evoked the sensation of walking through the Botanical Gardens on the island of Mahe. The inspiration for this experiment arose while photographing various palm leaves in the gardens during my stay on the island.

Summary of comments when this piece was exhibited. The leaf and tree-like void shapes, combined with the natural colours, lend a high degree of realism to the piece. The hessian background further enhances this effect. Initially, the separation caused by the void shapes and colours seemed too pronounced, but upon reflection, it accurately mirrors the appearance of the rainforest. The more I look at it, the more I feel like I am immersed in the rainforest. There's something uniquely captivating about this piece. It might be the opposing directions of the voids or the way my eyes are drawn into it. Perhaps it's the shadiness reminiscent of certain parts of the rainforest. Regardless, this artwork stands out in its ability to transport the viewer into another world.
